Big News: imagi’s Creative Computer Science with Python Curriculum is Getting a Major Upgrade!

Aug 27, 2025

imagi’s new coding curriculum

At imagi, we believe every student deserves the chance to discover the creativity and confidence that comes with learning to code.

While we initially launched imagi for middle school students, it was quickly adopted across grades 3-9. Our tangible and creative approach has helped thousands of students fall in love with computer science regardless of age. However, we know that a 3rd grader and a 9th grader don't learn in the same way and therefore worked on an exciting improvement in response to the widespread adoption across grade levels.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce a big change…

✨ Our brand-new, grade-specific creative computer science curriculum for grades 3-5 and 6-8 is here! ✨ (And yes, grades 9-12 are coming next!)

Why We’re Making This Change

Computer Science should feel fun, accessible, and just right for the age you’re teaching. But with such a wide range of learners in grades 3-9, some students needed more scaffolding, while others were ready to sprint ahead.

So we’ve restructured our curriculum into differentiated tracks, making it easier than ever for teachers to pick the perfect fit for their classroom:

🐣 Grades 3-5

This track has been reimagined from the ground up for younger learners.

✅ Simpler explanations and more visuals

✅ Extra practice before moving on to new concepts

✅ More unplugged activities (hands-on computer science without screens!)

✅ Two separate semester-long courses with smoother progressions:

  1. Beginner 1 - Introduces the basics of Python programming through creative projects, including pixels, colors, simple animations, and variables.

  2. Beginner 2 - Builds on these foundations with loops, functions, strings, and conditionals, paced and explained for younger learners.

Perfect for students early in their computer science journey, who are just starting to use script based coding languages such as Python!

🌟 Grades 6-8

For middle schoolers, we’ve kept the depth and rigor of our original curriculum and improved it based on feedback from teachers who have been teaching with imagi.

✅ Reordered sequence of concepts to better align with how students build computational thinking skills over time

✅ Expanded opportunities for knowledge consolidation through applied projects and collaborative exercises

✅ Two courses, for beginners and for those looking to go deeper:

  1. Beginner - Introduces core Python concepts such as loops, variables, conditionals, and functions, preparing students to tackle more complex challenges.

  2. Intermediate - Extends learning into data structures, compound logic, and object-oriented programming, enabling students to design more sophisticated projects.

This track keeps computer science fun and beginner-friendly while preparing students for more advanced problem-solving.

🔥 Grades 9-12 (Coming Soon!)

We’re not stopping here. Next, we’re rolling out a high school - ready track that provides a faster-paced program, giving older students the challenge and the foundation they need for future studies and careers.

What This Means for Teachers

No more adapting materials yourself or wondering if a lesson is “too easy” or “too hard.” With our grade-banded structure, you can:

✅ Choose a track that’s tailored to your classroom

✅ Rely even more on our ready-to-use slides, activities, and pacing

✅ Feel confident that your students are learning at the right level

This new curriculum is a major step in making computer science education accessible to every student, at every stage. By better tailoring our lessons for different grade bands, we are giving teachers the tools they need to succeed and students the confidence to keep building their skills year after year.

Building a Pathway for the Future

This launch is more than just an update. It’s a big step toward our vision: an inclusive, scalable, K-12 pathway in computer science education.

Because when students learn in ways that meet them where they are, they don’t just code better - they build confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills that will carry them far beyond the classroom.

And we can’t wait to see what your students will create next. ✨
