At imagi, we believe that coding is more than just a technical skill—it’s a gateway to creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our updated "Creative Coding in Python" curriculum, which now includes 50+ hours of learning content designed to empower both educators and students with an even stronger foundation in computer science. After gathering feedback from teachers, students, and industry experts, we’ve made significant improvements to ensure our curriculum is more engaging, comprehensive, and accessible for diverse learning environments.
Why the Update?
The world of computer science education is constantly evolving, and so are we! Our curriculum revision was guided by three key factors:
-
Expanding essential skills: We’re incorporating a broader set of competencies beyond just coding, including problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking.
-
Teacher and student feedback: Educators told us what worked and what could be improved, to make lessons more effective and engaging.
-
Stronger real-world connections: We’re increasing alignment with industry standards and integrating more real-world applications to prepare students for the future.
What’s New?
Our refreshed and expanded curriculum brings a host of exciting enhancements designed to make teaching and learning coding smoother, more engaging, and more impactful. Here’s what you can expect:
1. Expanded Content (50+ hours) in a More Flexible, Modular Structure
We’ve restructured our curriculum into two distinct courses:
-
Course 1: A beginner-friendly introduction to coding that works for both grades 3-5 and 6-8.
-
Course 2: An intermediate course designed for middle schoolers who are ready to dive deeper into Python.
Each course now features:
-
Shorter, self-contained lessons that fit into a standard 45-55 minute class period.
-
Clearer progression paths with prerequisite mapping so teachers can tailor learning to student needs.
-
Modular content design, allowing for greater flexibility in lesson sequencing.
2. More Engaging and Student-Centered Learning
We’ve refined our approach to make coding lessons even more interactive through:
-
Hands-on coding activities that include both unplugged and plugged activities.
-
More open-ended challenges to encourage creativity and critical thinking.
-
Less repetition so say goodbye to coding the same project multiple times!
-
Real-world applications to show students how coding connects to different subjects like math, art, and geography.
3. Stronger Alignment with Educational Standards
We’ve increased our curriculum’s alignment with key computer science and interdisciplinary standards:
-
100% of ISTE
-
100% of CSTA for grades 3-5
-
91% of CSTA for grades 6-8
4. New and Improved Teaching Resources
We know that teachers need the right tools to make coding instruction seamless. That’s why we’ve developed a comprehensive set of new resources:
-
Detailed Course Scope and Sequence – A clear roadmap of learning objectives and standards alignment.
-
Lesson Plans – Step-by-step guides for teachers with interactive strategies and assessments.
-
Engaging Slides – Visually enhanced slides for both teachers and students.
-
Worksheets & Review Sheets – Printable and digital activities to reinforce learning.
-
Rubrics – Easy-to-use grading tools for assessing student progress.
