imagiLabs x Hello World! Sverige Workshop
Written by imagiMentor Saga Kortesaari.
One thing is for sure: we need more women in the tech industry. This is why Hello World! chose to arrange a girls-only coding event, a free online coding workshop. In this case, it was a hands-on gathering that introduced tech and its endless possibilities to participants. We’re happy to announce that it was a great success! We gathered around 60 girls from all across Sweden, where most of them had no coding experience prior to the event. The event was of course held completely online using Zoom.
You’re probably wondering: “what do you learn in a coding class or workshop?” During the event we taught basic Python coding using imagiLabs tools. Even though most of the girls had not coded before, they all managed to code their first creation in the imagiLabs app within minutes. The imagiLabs app really is the perfect starting point for a beginner - all you need is a bit of curiosity and creativity! Leading a remote workshop is surprisingly easy - all you need is screen share. Above is a photo of some of the participants proudly showing what they created during the workshop.
This event will be replicated for imagiLabs' partners in Sweden and beyond, for example with EU Code Week, where kids across Europe are invited to learn introductory Python through colorful examples and live coding. EU Code Week is an important platform for students and educators alike!
After the workshop, the majority of the girls said that they will definitely continue using the imagi-app to create even more exciting stuff! We sure hope they will. The best thing about teaching code is seeing someone be excited about what they’ve managed to create. Hello World! will continue using imagiLabs tools to show more girls that tech is fun, creative and innovative. To all of you out there reading this, introduce a girl to the world of tech! You never know what might come out of it - perhaps she will be the next big inventor!
