Meet imagiGirl Sofia
As you probably know we work closely with the imagiGirls, our teenage ambassadors. You may even be following them on their very own Instagram account, @imagigirls.se. This week you will get to know one of them, Sofia, even better.

Hi Sofia! Tell us a bit about yourself 👧

I’m 14 years old and live in Täby, slightly north of Stockholm. My biggest hobby is to dance and sing, which I do several times a week. In school my favourite subjects are math and technology.

What do you do to study efficiently? 📚

My best tips on how to study efficiently is to put away your phone and to be in a room without a lot of things in it, for example sitting at your kitchen table. I feel like it’s much easier to focus when I’m not distracted all the time. I also think it’s easier to focus if you have some sort of “reward”, such as something to eat or to watch an episode of your favorite show, when you’ve achieved something.

Out of all the designs in the app, which one is your favourite? ✨

My favourite is 😜because that’s the first design I made that actually was a specific object. The first time I made it I coded every single light separately because that was before I had learned functions, but later I rewrote it so that it wouldn’t have as many lines of code.

What coding languages do you know? 💻

I only know one and that is Python. I’m very interested in learning HTML since I feel like many people are using it and I often stumble upon it in my everyday life without realizing it.

What do you do when you need inspiration? 💡

When I want to get inspired I usually let my feelings out through dance. I try to use the emotions to express myself. Since I’m passionate about music and it’s such a big part of my life, that is the most natural way for me.

Tell us something unexpected about you! 🎉

I just learned how to solve a Rubik's Cube, which to many people might not seem very exciting but I’ve always thought that it would be fun to learn it. So I sat down and watched a Youtube video. I got a bit angry when I didn’t understand it but I carried on and finally I learned it. But I’m not very fast yet 😉.

What is your dream job? ✨

Ever since I was a kid I’ve wanted to be an architect. I think that to fulfil your dreams the most important thing is to believe in yourself and to fight for it. Everyone can achieve almost anything as long as they work hard to get there. My dream is that after studying science in gymnasiet (Swedish High School/6th form college), I will be accepted to the architecture program at KTH and then go on to build large buildings by using the technology of the future.

Do you have any role models? 💫

I would say that my biggest role models are my parents. Ever since I was young I’ve said that I want to be like my mum and dad when I grow up, because I want to give my future kids the same things that my parents have given me. I think that it is important to learn from your parents’ mistakes so that you don’t repeat them. I have always been very close to my parents and that’s something I’m very grateful for.

What’s on your bucket list this year? ✅

I want to learn HTML and CSS.

We often say that girls are shaping the future with tech. In what ways would you like to use tech to shape/change/affect the future? 🙌

I think that it’s important for more girls to have careers in tech because many girls have a lot of potential but don’t know what to use their skills for. I have always enjoyed technology but didn’t know how I would use my knowledge, but now I’ve realised that I want to use the tech of the future to build large, beautiful, modern and high-tech houses.
